"Hunter Weapons
Log 10.222.8
Science Team is attempting to reverse-engineer Samus Aran's arsenal, based off of data acquired from her assaults on our forces. Progress is slow, but steady. Command would dearly enjoy turning Aran's weapons against her. We believe we can implement Beam weapon prototypes in three cycles. Aran's Power Suit technology remains a mystery, especially the curious Morph Ball function. All attempts at duplicating it have ended in disaster: four test subjects were horribly broken and twisted when they engaged our Morph Ball prototypes. Science Team wisely decided to move on afterward."

--From the Space Pirate datalogs of Metroid Prime.

Okay before I mesmerize you with tales of heroism and fantasy, I need to announce that I love Space Pirates. I'm going to run away from home and become a Space Pirate. Some day.

So I've been playing alot of Metroid lately (and right when they announce that they're probably holding Corruption back past June, greeaaat), and I remembered something that kinda bothered me about the first Metroid Prime. There are doors on the Space Pirate frigate Orpheon only accessible with some of Samus's unique weaponry, which the Pirates only develop later in the game (conveniently, right after you acquire it yourself)...but what I want to know is why they built doors they knew they couldn't open. Then again, the frigate was probably designed by the same Science Team that decided it was a good idea to engineer Pirate armor that leaves a gaping hole in front of what looks like a very large and vulnerable vital organ. Um, seriously. But maybe, if you punch a Space Pirate square in the heart, he becomes all huge and strong for like thirty seconds.

And they wonder why one person can casually (and with significant frequency) beach their defenses and destroy their entire operation in less than a short weekend time span.

Silly space pirates! Even the buggs are finding ways to get into your facilities! And yet you can't open your own doors. How can you know this, and still believe yourself to be teh superior species in teh galaxy?

they are pirates, they probably stole the ship, so doesn't make since if they (probably) stole the ship, there are doors that they don't have the technology to open them... duh
Dimeck Featured By Owner Jul 21, 2009
What if the Pirates stole the ship? They are pirates after all.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!! That's true that is pretty stupid! Do the game designers just not see this stuff or are they purposefully ignoring it?

It's so true! I've noticed stuff like that in a lot of games. It's pretty funny.

I always saw it as the Pirates being able to open their own doors simply by standing in front of them and having their DNA registered, or something like that, whereas Samus had to open them by overloading their power. And that the Pirates eventually got wise to this and installed doors that could only be opened by weapons with certain energy signatures.

But yeah, it always did strike me as kind of ridiculous in how it was set up. Also, the Trooper Pirates in Prime 1 were lame; they all shot yellow. D:

Thees guys are Sammus enemies? They make Goombas look like genies
DarkPuppet-Guy Featured By Owner Jul 29, 2008
The pirate has a good point. Why is that? I mean, they can't even open the basic blue ones, they wouldn't need to reverse engineer anything!
Oh well, still funny!
monkeyhuman Featured By Owner Jul 23, 2008
does anyone know how she turns into a morph ball? thats always been a mystery.
I would think the morph ball is actually bigger than it looks, it's bigger than the size of a baseball. plus Samus is a very athletic person as well as flexable. that's me theory. another mystery I would think is "how does she control that morph ball's movements?"
sekkechi Featured By Owner Jun 6, 2011
i know this post is old but i thought i'd let you know that actually when samus becomes the morph ball it splits her into down to pure energy which is stored in the center of the ball, her conciousness then controls the balls movements

hmmm, sounds plausible :3

And get your head sucked by the Metroid that I let out of it's tank behind you?

Seriously, Metroids feed on Space Pirates. Yum. :D

Yes, it is funny that if you've run away from pirates through a door........that they can't follow you. Even on their own ship.

you know I always wondered that about videogames. Why would they put doors in dungeons that the gaurdians can't open?
Lord-Laret Featured By Owner Mar 19, 2008
OMG, that is absolutely classic XD Why have doors only the heroine can open? :XD:
kite-san Featured By Owner Feb 19, 2008  Hobbyist Writer
i always interpreted it as that Samus's beams could short out various different locking systems, which the pirates would open by the amazing expedient of actually having the keycodes, instead of shorting out the security barrier and triggering the same sort of "open when power lost" circuitry that's in current-day automatic doors to keep people form being trapped in malls and the like.

maybe i just overthink things. fun comic nevertheless, i really like your verion of the wave pirate (the purple one is the wave pirate, right?)
